This isn't my normal style but I wanted to do some experimentation and do a color and style study, trying out some coloring methods not in my normal style and playing around with light values and stuff.
The subject matter just materialized naturally during an evening conversation with a friend
nerohelix who likes guilmon. Also before anyone brings that stuff up, that face isn't what folks refer to as Calarts style; we were also talking about old arcades at one point so I used the mouth style from the Donkey Kong cabinet's art style. In any case, this is more experiential, and indicative of how I will draw stuff in the future. That said:
Question Time: If you have any opinion on the coloring, composition, or stylings of this piece? I'd like to know, as I thought I did a nice job on it, and make take elements to improve my style overall. Feel free to provide criticism as well, this is not a call from compliments.

I'm a few months late, but I wanted to throw in my two cents. Your use of color here is wonderful; Guilmon's reds and blues really stand out, and they aren't too garish against the muted and natural greens, grays, and browns. Impmon also draws your attention, being in the background but not quite blending in. They look like they're from this world, but not from this part of it, if that makes sense. My only complaint here is that the stripe of shading (lighting, in this case?) on the top of Guilmon's mouth/teeth feels like a little too much detail. It doesn't mesh well with the very cartoonish, abstracted DK-cabinet mouth design, and gives it a three-dimensional quality that I personally find kind of uncanny.
Design-wise, though? You nailed it. Guilmon comes off as a perfect protagonist: young, a bit foolish (the uneven socks are a great little character detail), and ready for some fun adventures in that lush forest. Meanwhile, Impmon just screams "mischievous," and you know they're always gonna be just one step away, planning their mean pranks and traps.
